Our Mission

Our mission at It Takes A Village [Birth + Family Support] is to inform, encourage and empower expectant parents to realize their own best vision for a healthy and meaningful passage into parenthood. In the effort to strive towards equitable maternal health support, we created Bump: pay-what-you-can birth support.

Founded in the truth that vital doula support can be financially out of reach for many families, we extend our services to those who need a “bump” to support their bump and actualize their own birthing goals. To inquire about availability for this limited offering, please send us a note on our Contact page and tell us you’re interested in the Bump program in the notes section.

This mission also goes beyond our clients who hire us--it extends to our neighbors and community throughout the Chicagoland area in greatest need of support.

We promise to designate 2% of our revenue to outstanding organizations committed to improving the lives of new families who have difficulty meeting their own needs. Whether it's needing an advocate when it's challenging to afford one to keeping little ones' bottoms clean and dry, the awesome teams below work hard to share our vision--and we are grateful to invest in them.

share our spare

"Share Our Spare™ is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to sharing new and gently-used clothing, toys and supplies with children ages four and under. Since their inception in 2011, they have collected more than 500,000 infant and toddler items to help hundreds of local families in need.

One of their focused goals has been to Close the Diaper Gap, as nearly 1 in 3 families struggle to afford diapers and wipes for their littlest loves. In some cases, moms and dads stretch the time between diaper changes to make their limited resources last. This can lead to serious health problems for babies and parents. Young children can end up hospitalized with problems like urinary tract or staph infections. Imagine the stress of not being able to afford the basics that your baby needs – not a small matter for struggling parents and caregivers. When families can’t afford a healthy number of diapers for their babies, they’re faced with a choice between buying diapers and paying for food, rent, or utilities like heat. That’s a choice that no family should have to make. In the worst case, over time these kinds of stressors can contribute to the incidence of abuse and neglect of young children. Year to date, Share Our Spare has donated over 600,000 diapers to families living in need in the greater Chicago area with a goal of 1,000,000."
